Prev Next

TICO Document #: SFN-20240112A (formerly TES 150)

Description of Procedure: The current dome cap thickness is unable to withstand the impact load from the containers. New pin design utilizes a solid cap versus the dome cap previously used.

Units Affected: Bombcarts manufactured prior to September 2015 that utilize the pop-up pin design.

Parts Required: Pop-up pin solid cap 520454 (QTY 4)

  • Polyurethane ring 52324 (QTY 4)

  • Spring REF 52009 (QTY4)

  • Pop-up pin, center, solid cap 520455 (QTY - see step 13 for details)

Planned Labor: 1 hour

Instructions:

  1. Park the vehicle on a flat surface, apply a parking brake, and chock wheels. If your company utilizes a “Lock Out, Tag Out” policy, you should employ it during this procedure.

  2. Starting with the forward pop-up assembly, locate the bolts on the bottom plate of the housing securing the tube covers (P/N 52320).

  3. Remove the two 5/8”-11 bolts, nuts, and washers from the left side tube cover. Retain hardware, it will be reinstalled later.

Warning: Loaded spring inside of tube. To avoid injury, use caution when removing bolts.

  4. Remove the tube cover, spring, and pin from the pop-up housing tube.

  5. Clean out any rust or debris from the inside wall of the housing tube.

  1. Slide a new polyurethane ring (P/N 52324) over the top of the new pin (P/N 520454) and down onto the sleeve.

  2. Using a new spring (P/N 52009), place one end over the spring guide welded to the cover plate (P/N 52320).

  3. Insert an assembled pin into the housing, leaving the spring guide still exposed.

  4. Insert free end of the spring onto spring guide on the bottom of the pin and use to push the pin up the tube.

  1. Secure tube cover to pop-up housing using the two 5/8”-11 x 2” bolts, nuts, and washers previously removed.

  1. Torque 5/8”-11 bolts to 170 ft-lb.

  1. Discard old pin, polyurethane ring, and spring

  1. Repeat process as need for the remaining pop-up pins.

See note – If a bomb cart was converted from the wedge design to the pin design, then the center pop-up will utilize a taller pin. In that scenario, two center pins (P/N 520455) should be installed into the center pop-up housing instead of the standard pin (P/N 520454).

  1. Remove “Lock Out, Tag Out” plaque.

  1. Return vehicle to service.
