TICO Document #: SFN-20240118D (formerly TES 137)
Description of Procedure: Isolate the fuel gauge ground circuit. Add a 16 gauge “ground” circuit for the fuel gauge that goes directly to the chassis PDC.
Units Affected: Units with Cummins ISB 2013 engines. These units were assembled between Jan 2013 and Jan 2015.
Parts Required: Wire Assembly 91276 (QTY 1)
Planned Labor: 1 hour
Instructions:
Park vehicle on flat surface, apply parking brake, and chock wheels. If your company utilizes a “Lock Out, Tag Out” policy, you should employ it during this procedure.
Remove gauge panel by removing the #10 socket head screws with 1/8” hex key wrench. Panel is located at top of dash cover. There are 7 screws for this panel.
Tilt the gauge panel towards you to access the fuel gauge connector.
The white wire is the ground circuit. Remove the connector from the gauge. Cut this wire at about 6” from the connector, and splice on a 16ga white wire(91276). This wire is approximately 16 feet lg. Add heat shrink insulation the end of the old wire.
To aid installation use a piece of air brake tubing ( 10 ft. lg) to route the new wire out of the cab. There is an access tube in the lower RH side of the dash. Route wire along floor to cab pivot, then down frame rail to the chassis PDC.
Removal of the transmission cover is required to access the chassis PDC. Remove cover and install new ground wire on the stud closest to the battery cable connection. Coat connection with “liquid tape” after making sure connection is secured.
Install gauge connector back on fuel gauge. Install dash gauge panel on dash cover and tighten screws on panel
Turn on truck ignition. Turn on HVAC switch and switch blower speeds to low, medium, and high while observing the level indicator on the fuel gauge. There should be no movement.
With the truck ignition on. Turn on the headlight switch. Observe the fuel level indicator. There should be no movement.
Using plastic ties route and secure the wire you just ran from the cab to the PDC.
Install PDC cover and transmission grating.
Remove “Lock Out, Tag Out” plaque.
Return vehicle to service.
