TICO Document #: SFN-20231018A (formerly TES-239)
Description of Procedure: Install a power mirror upgrade kit
Units Affected: Any trucks with a power mirror upgrade
Parts Required: Kit-Sales, Motorized RH Side Remote, LH Static 920458
Instructions:
Park the vehicle on a flat surface, apply a parking brake, and chock wheels. If your company utilizes a “Lock Out, Tag Out” policy, you should employ it during this procedure.
Warning: To avoid electrical shock and/or damage to equipment, disconnect the negative side of the battery.
Remove the non-powered mirrors. See Figure 1a.
Install the new powered mirrors. See Figure 1b.
Note: Harness installation for LH mirrors is the same for motorized and heated except for the pin configuration, which is shown at the end of the installation.
Connect the end of the harness labeled “MAIN MR-LH” to the main mirror. See Figure 2a.
If installing a motorized/heated mirror, this end will have a 4-way connector.
If installing a heated-only mirror, this end will have a 2-way connector.
Remove the protective plug on the 2-way connector labeled “CONVEX MRLH” and discard. Connect 2-way to the convex mirror. See Figure 2b.
If heated convex mirror is not used, keep the protective plug on the connector.
Remove the power window panel on the LH side of the driver’s seat. See Figures 3a and 3b.
Use the drawing layout SK0383 to drill a 13/16” diameter hole through the cab. See Figure 5.
Note: If a previous power mirror option was installed, then a smaller hole will already exist. The smaller hole will still need to be drilled out to match the 13/16” specification. See Figure 4 below.
Install the rubber grommet included in the upgrade kit. See Figure 6a
Route the harness through the hole and apply low volatile clear industrial sealant around the grommet. See Figure 6b.
Secure the harness onto the mirror post using cable ties. Ensure that the harness cannot move freely. See Figure 7a and 7b.
Route the harness to the back of the dash and re-install the side panel. See Figure 8.
Remove (14) 1/4” button head socket cap screws on the front right cover of the cab. Retain all hardware. See Figures 9a and 9b.
Locate the 4-way connector on the right side of the dash labeled “Mirror Heat”. The connector is located behind the dash panel switches, see Figures 10a and Figure 10b for reference.
Remove the protective plug on the 4-way “Mirror Heat” connector. See Figure 10c.
Install the pin terminals from the other end of the harness to the 4-way connector that comes with the harness as a loose part.
Install the pin configuration shown in Figure 11a for harness 621252, LH Mirror motorized/heat
Install the pin configuration shown in Figure 11b for harness 621253, LH Mirror heat only
Connect the 4-way connector that was just assembled in the previous step to the mirror heat connector. See Figure 12a.
Re-install the front right cover back on the cab. See Figure 12b.
Repeat steps to connect the RH harness to mirrors.
Note: RH harness installation is a straight plug-in and route harness.
Route the harness down the mirror as seen in figures 13a and 13b. Be sure to adequately secure the harness using cable ties.
Remove the (2) nuts in figure 14a and install 1/2” p-clamps included within kit. Re-install the nuts and torque to 108 in-lb. See Figures14a.
Continue to route harness down alongside the coolant hoses from the surge tank. Secure with cable ties. See Figure 14b.
Locate the 4-way connector underneath the cab labeled “C004 RH Mirror.”.This connector is part of the chassis interface harness as seen in Figure 15a.
Connect the “C004” 4-way connector to the mirror harness as seen in Figure 15b.
Use cable ties to secure both harnesses as shown in Figure 16.
Re-connect the negative side of the battery
Remove “Lock Out, Tag Out” plaque.
Return vehicle to service.
