TICO Document #: SFN-20231009E (formerly TES-210)
Complaint: Cummins B6.7 engines fail to perform an active regeneration of the aftertreatment system; the Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration Permit Switch parameter is ENABLED. Since TICO does not install a permit switch on trucks, the Engine Control Module (ECM) is not able to ground the permit signal, thus inhibiting the engine from running an active regeneration.
Units Affected: B6.7 engines
Description of Procedure Change the Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration Permit Switch parameter on the ECM from ENABLED to DISABLED.
Required Tools: Cummins INLINE™ & Cummins INSITE™
Planned Labor: 10 mins
Instructions:
Park the vehicle on a flat surface, apply the parking brake, and chock wheels. If your company utilizes a “Lock Out, Tag Out” policy, you should employ it during this procedure. Turn off the engine.
Locate the On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) connectors in the lower left portion of the dash.
Remove the cap from the black (upper) OBD connector (Figure #1) and connect the Cummins INLINE™ adapter.
Turn the key switch to the on position, but do not start the engine.
Open the Cummins INSITE™ program on the computer and connect to the ECM.
Once INSITE™ has connected to the ECM, select the Features and Parameters tab (Figure #2). A list of parameters will appear.
You will find the Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration Permit Switch parameter under the Aftertreatment group (Figure #3). This parameter should currently be set to ENABLE.
Note: If the parameter is set to DISABLE, proceed to step 12. This parameter is correctly set.
Change the Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration Permit Switch parameter to DISABLE (Figure #4).
Right-click on the screen. Under Send To, click on ECM (Figure #5).
Proceed with the on-screen prompts.
Once completed, a message will appear stating that all parameters were successfully written to the ECM (Figure #6). Click OK.
Disconnect Cummins INSITE™ program from the ECM before removing the Cummins INLINE™ adapter from the OBD connector.
Turn the key switch to the off position.
Remove the “Lock Out, Tag Out” plaque.
Return the vehicle to service.
