TICO EV Technician Training

Prev Next

TICO EV Technician Training is designed exclusively for TICO dealer service technicians. This hands-on course will prepare your team to safely and confidently service TICO’s all-electric spotter tractors. Each dealer location that services TICO EVs must have two technicians who have completed this course.

About this Course

This is a 3 day course, the bulk of which is developed and delivered by Dr. Mark Quarto of Quarto Technical Services in conjunction with TICO Engineering, TICO Service, and TICO Education groups. You will also receive technical assistance and basic instruction on setting up and using diagnostic tools and software, though more advanced instruction on diagnostics and troubleshooting will be offered in a separate course. (Virtual or in-person.)

Course Objectives

  • System familiarization: Overview of the EV electrical systems unique to TICO tractors.

  • Hands-on commissioning and decommissioning: Safely de-energizing and re-energizing the vehicle for service

  • Safety standards and practices: Working within TICO’s requirements and in compliance with NFPA 70E and OSHA requirements.

Unless specifically arranged, each class will cover both the Pro-eSpotter and the ProSpotter EV (Volvo Penta).

Audience

  • TICO dealer technicians who already service spotters and will support EV tractors

  • Technicians who are familiar with TICO tractors (general systems and components are not reviewed in this course)

Prerequisites

Technicians must provide proof of the following before enrollment:

  • ASE xEV Level 1 Certification

  • ASE xEV Level 2 Certification

Enroll and complete the certifications at https://www.ase.com/ev.

Note: These are certifications, not training, though ASE does provide detailed content for study. There are many ASE xEV preparation courses available online if you need more instruction.

*TICO also strongly recommends baseline knowledge of basic electricity and safety (volts/amps/current, AC/DC, multimeter use, etc.). Without this foundation, technicians may struggle with course content. There are many reputable online or in-person training resources.

PPE for Class

  • Class 0 electrical gloves with leather protectors: Purchase gloves directly from a manufacturer rather than Amazon or general distributors; gloves sold through third-party channels may be close to expiration (gloves must be replaced every year). Our trainer will review glove testing in class.

  • Safety goggles

Enrollment

Enrollment is not open in TICO Learning. ASE xEV certificates must be submitted in advance, and TICO will enroll approved technicians directly based on:

  • Verification of ASE xEV certifications

  • EV tractor rollout schedules for your region (priority enrollment to those areas)
