Description of Procedure: Install the J1939 CAN Gateway converter harness onto the old cab design

Units Affected: Old cab trucks that are converting to PSI’s new HDOBD Gasoline or LPG engine

Parts Required: HARNESS-WIRE, J1939 CABLE, 500 TO 250 BAUD GATEWAY, PSI ENGINES, OLD CAB 621116 (QTY 1)

Instructions:

  1. Park the vehicle on a flat surface, and apply the parking brake and chock wheels. If your company utilizes a “Lock Out, Tag Out” policy, you should employ it during this procedure.


  2. Remove the panel containing the speedometer by loosening the #10 screws using a 1/8” thandle hex drive key (see Figure #1). Set screws aside.


  1. On the left hand side of the dash bucket, locate the unused Delphi Packard 3-Way connector labelled “SP2 SPARE POWER” (See Figures #2 & #3).


  1. On the left hand side of the dash bucket, locate the J1939 junction. Both of the Deutsch connectors are labelled “C8 J1939” (See Figures #4).

  1. Disconnect the two connectors.


  1. Connect C01 from harness p/n 621116 (See Figure #5) into the Packard 3-way connector labelled “SP2 SPARE POWER” from Figures #2 & #3.


  1. Connect C03 “CAB 500K” from harness p/n 621116 (See Figure #6) into the Deutsch 3-way tower “C8 J1939” (See Figure #7) previously disconnected.


  1. Connect C04 “GAUGES 250K” from harness p/n 621116 (See Figure #8) into the Deutsch 3- way shroud “C8 J1939” (See Figure #9) previously disconnected.


  1. Connect C02 “J1939 GATEWAY” from harness p/n 621116 (See Figure #10) into the J1939 CAN Gateway converter box (See Figure #11).


  1. Place the converter box and wiring inside of the dash bucket.


  1. Reinstall the dash panel using the screws previously removed.


  1. Remove “Lock Out, Tag Out” plaque.


  1. Return vehicle to service.
