TICO Document #: SFN-20240102B (formerly TES 223)

Description of Procedure: There is a possible water intrusion path into the air cleaner via the air cleaner cover. Temporarily cover the un-used air filter clipping points with a waterproof tape. A new sealed air cleaner cover will soon be available to eliminate this possible water intrusion point.

Units Affected: All units with a remote cleaner shipped within the last year. (7/28/18 - 7/28/19)

Parts Required: Water-proof tape.

Planned Labor: 5 minutes.

Instructions:

  1. Park the vehicle on a flat surface, apply a parking brake, and chock wheels. If your company utilizes a “Lock Out, Tag Out” policy, you should employ it during this procedure.

  2. Locate the air cleaner. It is mounted between the exhaust system and the right–hand side fender. See Figure #1.

  1. Open the air cleaner cover and inspect the air filters. See Figure 2.

  2. If the primary (See Figure #3) and secondary (See Figure #4) air filters are dry & clean, reinstall and close the air cleaner cover. Proceed to page 5 on this procedure.

  3. If the primary (See Figure #3) and secondary (See Figure #4) air filters are dry & dirty, replace the air cleaner(s) per your company’s preventative maintenance procedures. Install new air filter and close the air cleaner cover. Proceed to page 5 on this procedure.

  1. If the primary & secondary air filters are “wet”, then they should be replaced. See Figures #3 & #4.

  2. Additionally, the engine oil should be checked for any water migration into the engine. This can be checked by draining the oil from the oil pan. See Figure #5. If water is found, contact the Tico Service Group for further instructions.

  3. Replace any oil drained from the pan with the appropriate engine oil per your engine type. Confirm oil level by checking the engine oil dipstick located on the left-hand side of the truck.

  1. Once the air cleaner cover is re-installed, place water-proof tape over the indicated locations shown in Figure #6.

  2. The water proof tape can be commercially obtained from local home improvement or online stores. An example is shown in Figure #7.

  1. The installation of the waterproof tape is a temporary preventative measure. A revised water-tight air cleaner cover will soon be available under Tico p/n: 621162. The Tico Service Group will advise when available. See Figure #8.

  1. Remove “Lock Out, Tag Out” plaque.

  1. Return vehicle to service.
