TICO Document #: SFN-20231230B (formerly TES 258)
Description of Procedure: Procedure to have additional support to harness assemblies across the rear of the Engine Cradle and “Z” Crossmember. This procedure will cover the installation of four (4) cable ties to support harness assemblies across the rear of the Engine Cradle and “Z” Crossmember.
Units Affected: See Campaign Bulletin
Parts Required: Cable Tie, Button Head, 9.6” LG, 105LB, Nylon, Black (QTY 4) 420510
Alternate Part - Cable Tie, Button Head, Raised Shoulder, 7.87” LG, 120LB, Nylon, Black (QTY 4) 420517
Planned Labor: 45 minutes
Instructions:
Park the vehicle on a flat surface, apply the parking brake and chock wheels. If your company utilizes a “Lock Out, Tag Out” policy, you should employ it during this procedure.
Warning: To avoid electrical shock to personnel and/or damaging equipment, remove the battery power on the truck. Remove the battery box cover (see Figure 1) and disconnect the negative (black cable) side of the battery (see Figure 2).
You will need to gain access to “Z” Crossmember and the rear section of the Engine Cradle. First remove any grating in this area by removing the mounting screws from the top side. Carefully remove the grating so as not to incur harm to yourself and or damage any property (Figure 3). Carefully remove the grating and hardware set aside for reassembly.
Two (2) each of the cable ties will be used to secure the new Cab Lift Combination Power/Ground cable to the top side of the lower flange of the “Z” Crossmember (Figure 4). Secure through the existing holes on the lower flange of the “Z” Crossmember.
The Cab Lift Combination Power/Ground cable runs between the center-mounted Chassis Power Distribution Center and the Hydraulic Tank assembly.
The two (2) remaining cable ties, attach the Exhaust Dosing Supply Module harness securely to the rear Engine Cradle crossmember (Figure 5). Secure through the existing holes on the aft cross-member of the Engine Cradle.
The Exhaust Dosing Supply Module harness is part of the Emissions Harness Interface, which is connected to the Main Chassis harness and runs to various emission components, i.e., DEF Tank Sensor, Dosing valve, DEF Tank Heater Valve, Dosing Supply Module, etc.
Re-Install the removed grating, with the retained hardware.
Reconnect the battery ground cable to the battery.
Remove “Lock Out, Tag Out” plaque.
Return vehicle to service.
