Description of Procedure: Exhaust pipe bellows losing integrity over time due to possible misalignment. Procedure to add additional support to QSB Tier IV Final Exhaust system.

Units Affected: All QSB Tier IV Final units with a production date prior to 09/1/2022.

Parts Required: KIT - EXHAUST SUPPORT BRACKET, 5" CLAMP, FRAME MOUNTED, CUMMINS QSB IV FINAL. 970094 (QTY 1)

Planned Labor: 20 minutes.

Instructions:

  1. Park the vehicle on a flat surface, apply a parking brake, and chock wheels. If your company utilizes a “Lock Out, Tag Out” policy, you should employ it during this procedure.

  2. Lock the cab in the upward position by utilizing the cab lift switch and the orange pull handle found on the right-hand side of the unit (Figure #2)

  1. Locate the exhaust pipe underneath the right side of the cab, above cab mount. (Figure #3)

  2. Locate the top two (2) 5/8” bolts, part of the cab protection bar mounting plate, and washers as shown in Figure #3. Remove these bolts, nuts and washers with a 15/16” socket. Discard this hardware, they will not be reused. (Figure #4)

  1. Install the support bracket from the installation kit, align the mounting holes, with the top flange pointing outwards (Figure #5).

  2. Secure in place using the provided 5/8” hardware, do not tighten. (Figure #6)

  1. Install the provided 5” U-bolt around exhaust pipe. Use nuts from U-bolt assembly to hold it in place. (Figure #7)

  2. Ensure that the new U-bolt is in contact with the insulating mesh on the exhaust but not crushing the exhaust pipe. (Figure #7)

  1. On the above exhaust pipe, locate the other U-bolt. Loosen, but do not remove nuts from top U-bolt (Figure #8 & #9)

  1. With both U-Bolts loosen, align the exhaust pipes, as necessary, to ensure the bellows are not being bent. (Figure #10 & #11)

  1. Once aligned, tighten the top U-bolt then then newly installed U-bolt. (Figure #12 & #13)

  1. Tighten the bolts on the new support bracket (Figure #14), to a torque specification of 125ft-lbs

  2. Unlock the cab from it’s upward position by utilizing the cab lift switch and lower the cab.

  1. Remove “Lock Out, Tag Out” plaque.

  1. Return vehicle to service.
