SFN-20231015B_Install a guard to shield the PRD vent line

Prev Next

TICO Document #: SFN-20231015B (formerly TES-234)

Complication: The mid-mounted magnet can move excessively due to road contact, possibly damaging the CNG pressure relief device (PRD) vent line.

Description of Procedure: Install a guard to shield the PRD vent line from the magnet’s excessive movement

Units Affected: CNG-powered vehicles with a mid-mounted magnet

Parts Required: KIT, CNG PRD VENT GUARD 970038

Planned Labor: 15 minutes

Instructions:

  1. Park the vehicle on a flat surface, apply a parking brake, and chock wheels. If your company utilizes a “Lock Out, Tag Out” policy, you should employ it during this procedure.

  2. Locate the PRD vent line. It is a ½” stainless steel tube located behind the rearward fuel tank mounting bracket. If the vent line has been damaged, then it must be replaced. See Figure #2.

Note: The PRD vent line is not a fuel line and does not contain any natural gas during normal operation. It is a safety device that allows the fuel tank to release excess pressure. Thus, a damaged vent line must be replaced.

  1. To install the vent line guard, remove the (2) 3/8”-16 bolts that mount the pass-thru plate to the fuel tank bracket. See Figure #3.

Discard the bolts, but retain the washers for later use.

  1. Using the (2) 3/8”-16 bolts provided in the kit and the retained washers, install the guard (P/N 123155) onto the backside of the fuel tank bracket. See Figure #4.

  1. Remove the “Lock Out, Tag Out” plaque.

  1. Return the vehicle to service.
