TICO Document #: SFN-20231013C (formerly TES-225)

Description of Procedure: Install a bumper-mounted magnet to a TICO tractor

Reason: The bumper magnet and associated parts are shipped loose with the truck to avoid damage during transport of the tractor itself. The anchor shackles were not properly tightened to ensure the threaded pin would not loosen during the operation of the tractor.

Units Affected: Any truck that has selected the bumper-mounted magnet option

Planned Labor: 15 minutes

Instructions:

  1. Park the vehicle on a flat surface, apply a parking brake, and chock wheels. If your company utilizes a “Lock Out, Tag Out” policy, you should employ it during this procedure.

  2. Locate the holes on the bottom surface of the bumper. See Figure #1.

  1. Install the (2) mounting brackets underneath the bumper with the associated hardware as shown in Figure #2.

  1. Install the (4) 5/8-11 eye bolts:

(2) eye bolts mounted to the bumper

(2) eye bolts mounted to the magnet assembly itself as shown in Figure #3.

  1. Attach one end of the chains to the bumper and brackets via the 3/8” anchor shackles . See Figures #4 & #5. Do not completely tighten the anchor shackles.

  1. Attach other end of the chains to the magnet assembly bumper via the 1/4” anchor shackles. See Figures #6 & #7. Do not completely tighten the anchor shackles.

  1. Confirm the height of the magnet assembly is the desired distance from the ground and is level. See Figure #8. The magnet assembly height can be adjusted by changing the number chain links between the bumper to the magnet assembly itself.

  1. Once the desired height of the magnet assembly is obtained, tighten the anchor shackles. Before tightening each anchor shackle pin, remove the pin from each anchor shackle, see Figures #9 & #10 and add a drop of Loctite™ 263, see Figure #11, to the pin’s thread.

  2. Re-install each anchor shackle to the chain and fully tighten the pin.

The Loctite™ 263 will ensure that the pin does not loosen during operation.

  1. Remove the “Lock Out, Tag Out” plaque.

  1. Return the vehicle to service.
