Description of Procedure: Heavy-Duty Engine Flywheel Housing Replacement

Complication: Flywheel starter ring gear teeth failure on the PSI 8.8 L engine. When replacing the flywheel and starter, UPS needs to make sure to use the new HD engine flywheel housing kit from Tico. Original flywheel has been discontinued and replaced with the new HD engine flywheel housing kit.

Action Required: UPS TICO terminal tractors equipped with 8.8L powered CNG/LNG requiring a flywheel and starter replacement. If the unit had not had a HD engine flywheel and engine housing replacement, on the next failure the unit needs this campaign completed. When inspecting the unit to determine if it needs this HD flywheel Housing kit, quick reference will be the starter mounting.

• If the starter is still a pad mount that mounts to the engine block, unit will need the new HD kit.

• If starter is mounted to the HD flywheel housing flange mounted, the unit has already had a HD kit installed. See picture below of the new HD Flywheel Housing kit below with flange mounted starter

Campaign Detail: When unit has flywheel failure (grinding, no start, etc.) inspect unit to determine unit had HD Flywheel Housing Kit installed. If unit has already had new HD Flywheel Housing Kit installed – repair concern. If unit had not had a new HD Flywheel Housing Kit installed order the parts through MDC to repair unit.

Part Information: UPS P/N 5316152 Kit – Parts price is controlled at $4484.00 + 11 hours labor

• 295 kits were furnished at no cost to UPS of the 412 units that were equipped with the PSI 8.8L engine. All PSI 8.8L engine after the 2021-year model already has this HD kit installed.

• Note: Some of these 154 units may have the HD kits already installed and did not get counted in the tracking by TICO Manufacturing. Close campaign and update in commit section if unit had already been replaced.

Service Infromation: UPS may choose to have job completed at a local Tico Dealership. Contact Tico Manufacturing to schedule the repair with their recommended local dealership. This will help control the parts and labor cost of the repair. Parts kit $4484.00 and labor of 11 hours to complete job. To control the cost of the repair, Tico Manufacturing must be contacted and coordinate the repair with their local dealership.
