TICO Document #: SFN-20240108C (formerly TES 168)
Description of Procedure: This procedure is for installing a pintle hook bracket/or replacing a bracket on a galvanized frame. The bracket listed will place the pintle hook height 17 ½” from the ground. This is the height used on UPS units.
Units Affected: N/A
Parts Required:
Panel-rear tail light, left 121026-1 (QTY 1)
Panel-rear tail light, right 121026 (QTY 1)
Bracket-pintle hook mount 121027 (QTY 1) (Applicable 10924, 10924-G)
Planned Labor: 4-6 hours
Instructions:
Park the vehicle on a flat surface, apply a parking brake, and chock wheels. If your company utilizes a “Lock Out, Tag Out” policy, you should employ it during this procedure.
Remove the license plate, rear tail light panel, and wiring harness from the rear of the frame. Remove the BP-R1 brake valve from the back of the bracket. Save mounting hardware
Disconnect and remove the (2) tail lights and (2) reverse lights from the tail light panel(ref below).
Remove the existing pintle hook bracket by using a carbon arc gouger, plasma cutter or oxy/acetylene torch. Take care not to structurally damage the mounting surface. This bracket will not be reused and can be discarded.
Make sure any uneven surfaces and residual welds are ground smooth and flush for installation of new bracket (TICO P/N 121027).
Locate the new bracket in the center of the frame and against the rear cross member. Mark an outline area ½” larger than the bracket all the way around the outside of the bracket and the inside opening of the bracket. Grind off any residual galvanized coating in the area shown (see sheet below).
Install the new pintle hook bracket (TICO P/N 121027) centered on the rear of the frame. The tack was welded to the mounting surface in this position shown.
Using the following welding procedure.
• Weld a 3/8” fillet weld around the interior and exterior surfaces of the bracket as shown below.
• Weld settings are for FCAW process using Lincoln Electric Ultra Core 71A85 wire, and 85% Argon/15% CO2 gas mixture. Make weld with or equivalent.
After welding has been completed, the bare metal area needs to be protected from corrosion.
• Galvover® galvanizing rod / soldering rod will be used.
Using a oxy/acetylene torch, heat the repaired surface until the Galvover® galvanizing rod begins to melt. Completely cover the affected area damaged by the repair process. Use a wire brush to smooth and distribute the Galvover® solder over the area and allow to cool.
Install the BP-R1 brake valve onto the pintle hook bracket from its previous location reusing the associated mounting hardware.
Install new tail light panels (TICO p/n: 121026 & 121026-1) with existing mounting hardware.
Install the (2) tail lights and (2) reverse lights into the tail light panel and make the electrical connections.
Install the license plate light into the tail light panel with the existing mounting hardware. Connect electrical harness. Install the license plate on the left hand tail light panel with the existing mounting hardware.
The new installed pintle hook, bracket and tail light panels should look like the picture below
Remove “Lock Out, Tag Out” plaque.
Return vehicle to service.
