Description of Procedure: Change the main power supply to UPS’s On-Board computer from ignition power to battery power

Reason: Eliminates extra reboot time required each time the trucks are turned off

Units Affected: All UPS Trucks

Parts Required: Deutsch Contact Removal Tool, Contact size 16, 18-16 GA wire, Blue. Mfr. P/N: 0411-204-1605

Planned Labor: 10 minutes


Instructions:

  1. Park the vehicle on a flat surface, apply a parking brake, and chock wheels. If your company utilizes a “Lock Out, Tag Out” policy, you should employ it during this procedure.

    Warning: To avoid electrical shock to personnel and/or damaging equipment, remove battery power on the truck by disconnecting the negative side of the battery.


  2. Disconnect the Deutsch 6-way harness by turning the connector at the dash connection port counter-clockwise. See Figures 3 and 4.


  1. Remove the electrical tape behind the connector to free the wires for extraction. See Figures 5 and 6.


  1. Insert the contact removal tool into cavity B and remove the blue wire (ignition power). See Figures 7 and 8.


  1. Insert the contact removal tool into cavity A to remove the red wire (battery power). See Figures 9 and 10.


  1. Insert the blue wire (ignition power) into cavity A. The pin will click into place when it’s fully seated. See Figures 11 and 12.


  1. Insert the red wire (battery power) into cavity B. The pin will click into place when it’s fully seated. See Figures 13 and 14.


8. Reconnect the 6-way Deutsch connector into the 6-way Deutsch receptacle. See Figures 15 and 16.


  1. Remove “Lock Out, Tag Out” plaque.


  1. Return vehicle to service.


Notes:

  • The computer is now active on battery power at all time.

  • To prevent battery drain, ensure the computer is disconnected when not in use.
